Stewarts back to Colorado & Heading to Cali for the Holidays

Ahhhh..... I had a great weekend having Eli, Mandy and Ava here the past four days. We had lots of laughs and a great time with each other. Mandy and Eli were able to ski on Saturday and I got some good time with Ava. Sunday we all rotated skiing and watching Ava. She is the best little girl ever! She has the sweetest demeanor and is just a sweet baby. I would have loved to have them stay another few days. Oh well, I will see them again in California in a few days. I head back to California on Saturday- Can't wait to see everyone! Looking forward to running on the beach and praying for some good weather ;)

Here are a few pictures. Eli has most of the pictures from the weekend, here are just a few....

I am the Modern Christian

Eli and Mandy posted this on their blog. Their friend Duncan wrote it....

I am the modern Christian.
I say I know God, yet do not take the time to know Him.
I say prayer is good and Godly, yet I do not have time for it.
I say church is good, but the music, message, and lighting should be perfect. I say I go to church, yet do not know I am the church.
I am the modern Christian.
I find it hard to worship when the guitar is out of tune.
I find it hard to worship when there is no music.
I find it hard to pray on weekend nights.
I find it hard to know God, yet claim to know Him.
I am the modern Christian.
I believe in the Bible yet think its standards are too high.
I believe that God is just, yet think everyone is basically good.
I believe that missions are good, yet leave it up to others.
I believe in giving it all up for God, yet pursue my own dreams.
I am the modern Christian.
I know exactly what to say to the lost, but have no idea what to say to God.
I know about denying yourself, but cannot miss my favorite show.
I know about sacrifice, but will not inconvenience myself.
I know I am saved, but do not know what I am saved from.
I am the modern Christian.
I think the child in Africa needs Jesus more than my neighbor.
I think the man who gives up sweets for lent is holy, but the man who fasts from food for two weeks is a radical.
I think that crying is good during altar calls for others to see, but not in my own room for God to see.
I think being called to work for God is good, but would gladly give it up for a higher salary.
I am the modern Christian.
I wait on my calling in life, and will not venture out until I get it.
I wait for a miracle to happen, but don't believe in performing them.
I wait for my friend to get saved, yet will not make dinner for him.
I wait on God's timing, yet do everything my way.
I am the modern Christian.
I call God's laws good, but find them impossible to follow.
I call God's name holy, yet run to Him as a last resort.
I call the Word of God inspired, yet have never read it through.
I call others lost, yet am not aware my own depravity.
I am the modern Christian.
Redemption is a way to rid myself of faults.
Conviction is when I feel guilty about my actions.
Sanctification is a word I do not understand.
Salvation is my ticket into Heaven.
I am the modern Christian.

Carol & Doug's Wedding

Here are some pictures from Carol and Doug's Wedding a few weeks ago. Carol is a dear friend and I have loved walking life with here here in Colorado. Carol and I met at Kanakuk Colorado working with young girls together last summer. Carol has a the most genuine spirit and a heart of absolute gold. I love this sister of mine and I had a great time being apart of her special day. Carol has taught me so much about honesty in friendship,extending grace and being more consumed with Jesus that my own reputation. Thank goodness for friends who sharpen us!

Long lost triplet....

My friend Melissa Turner sent me a email the other day. She was in the Dr.'s office and was reading a triathlon magazine and came across the above picture. She thought that Mandy or I was in the magazine. She took a picture with her phone, it is a bit blurry- you can see the resemblance, looks like a Schlenker with short hair. I suppose it is the crazy curly blonde mop on her head and the mouth. Thought It was fun for Melissa to pass this along. What do you think?

Marathon, Family, Wedding Events and Snow!

Wow! The past few weeks have been really full! Last Sunday (10/14) I ran the Denver Marathon. It was an eventful race! 34 degrees, rain and wind blow the entire way......It was cold and rainy and I finished. Overall the race was great, had great music and lots of beautiful leaves and parks. I am thankful it was not my first marathon experience, it could have but a damper on future marathons. The weather kept spectators in so the finish line was pretty anti-climatic. Mandy found me at mile 21 and ran the me to the finish line! It was so fun to have her with me the last stretch. My family was a great support to have. My Dad has signs and was on the side of the road cheering me on, Dad's are great for that.

FAMILY

My parents, sister and niece spend that last week here with me in Colorado. It was wonderful to have them here and to have them see my life here. We were spend great time with each other, laughed a lot, teased a lot, had the first snow of the season, went snow shoeing (so fun!) , played with baby Ava and talked about how great she is, cooked with each other and just enjoyed being family!It was great to have my family meet my friends, see my life, church and what is going on here.

WEDDING

My friend Carol got married this weekend. It was a great weekend full of events! There were 2 full days of events leading up to the wedding. Carol and Doug have amazing family and great friends, which made for a wonderful wedding! It was great to see all that God has done in their lives to bring these two together and it has been great to walk life with Carol as God has prepared her for marriage. I will post some pictures later.

SNOW

Yes we have had the first snow of the season! It snowed about a foot over the weekend, it is beautiful! Everything is covered which made for some great snow shoeing. More snow to come. I guess I better get ready to start shoveling and scraping my car.....I wish there were some great guys across the street to come shovel our driveway!

PICTUES

I will follow-up with pictures. My sister was the picture girl this week, so I will have to wait until she sends them on.

Weekend in Telluride, Co

Some friends and I decided after work on Friday that we should go to Telluride for the weekend. It was a last minute weekend adventure to the San Juans. The San Juan Mountain Range is amazing! All the mountains in southern Colorado are jagged and really severe. The Aspen trees were peaked- the colors were incredible against the snow capped mountains. Ann, Melissa and I had a great time together. Thank you Jesus for a refreshing weekend of great conversations and fixing our hearts on you!

Also- My family will be here this Friday! My parents are driving out from Cali and then we will drive into Denver to get Mandy and Ava. My brother, Ryan is planning on driving out here sometime next week. I am running the Denver Marathon on Sunday- so you can pray I finish and my body is protected from injury. It will be great to have some family support!

I will keep you all updated on the week of the Schlenker Family Visit to Colorado..... there could be some stories......My mom is hilarious! How much you want to bet she drove out here with loads of Trader Joes food for me and the latest deal she found at Marshalls! I love it.... you gotta love Lynne Schlenker, she is a gem and one of a kind! Love that Mama!

Good Nugget

This verse has really been speaking to me and I pray that this passage resonates in my life.

2 Peter 1:3-9

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.

Training Run in Leadville, Co

Thought I would post some pictures of training run I did yesterday. I am training for the Denver Marathon, October 14. Leadville is a town about 40 miles east and has a elevation of 10,600 feet. The higher elevation makes for good endurance training and it was a beautiful run. There is a 15 mile loop that circles the town. The trail goes through Aspen Groves and lots of old mines. It was a beautiful run. My friend Ann came with me and she rode her bike- what a friend! Next week I will peak at 20 miles and then I start to taper back for the marathon. This will be my 2nd full marathon. I ran my first in San Diego with my sister, I will miss not running with her, but she will be in Denver with me! Hoping that muscle memory will kick in :)These pictures are not great but thought I would give some highlights.

Stopping to grab some gooo.

The Snow is starting to fall at high elevation

Thank you Jesus

On the Way to Leadville- The leaves are really starting to turn.

Psalm 37

1 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.

9 For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.

11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy great peace.

12 The wicked plot against the righteous
and gnash their teeth at them;

13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword
and bend the bow
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.

15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.

16 Better the little that the righteous have
than the wealth of many wicked;

17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,
but the LORD upholds the righteous.

18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD,
and their inheritance will endure forever.

19 In times of disaster they will not wither;
in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.

20 But the wicked will perish:
The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields,
they will vanish—vanish like smoke.

21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously;

22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses will be cut off.

23 If the LORD delights in a man's way,
he makes his steps firm;

24 though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.

26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be blessed.

27 Turn from evil and do good;
then you will dwell in the land forever.

28 For the LORD loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.
They will be protected forever,
but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;

29 the righteous will inherit the land
and dwell in it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks what is just.

31 The law of his God is in his heart;
his feet do not slip.

32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous,
seeking their very lives;

33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power
or let them be condemned when brought to trial.

34 Wait for the LORD
and keep his way.
He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man
flourishing like a green tree in its native soil,

36 but he soon passed away and was no more;
though I looked for him, he could not be found.

37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
there is a future [b] for the man of peace.

38 But all sinners will be destroyed;
the future [c] of the wicked will be cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.

40 The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

Moutain Bikes and Mulitple Crashes

So I ventured out for a good mountain biking ride with a friend and co-worker this afternoon. It was beautiful out, we took a really fun single track up and back from our village. It was beautiful weather and a great ride. On the way back I took a pretty smashing fall, came uncliped from my bike and my hip landed with a good size rock, scraped up my arms...bla, bla, bla- the typical fall with some good scratches and bruises. Got of the trail, loaded my bike on top of my Car.....

CRASH #2!!!!!!

I was driving back to my house, opened the garage door- Yep you know what is next. I spaced out that my bike was on top and crashed my bike into the garage door. My bike was stuck in between the garage door. You should have been there on this scence. My Yakima racks completely came off, my bike tray was bent in half and it took three girls to figure out how this bike possible got in this position. My bike was stuck in the garage door with the fork of my bike jammed and dented in the hood of my car. Dents, bangs and scrapes... let me tell you! My seat was stuck, so I crawled on top of my car layed down and kicked my seat off the bike and tried to unassemble my bike so that I could somehow get my car in a position to drive. It finaly happened!

I wish I could say this is the first time this happened- no almost exactly a year ago I drove my bike into my parents garage, except that time I wrecked the entire garage door and my parents had to claim my accident on their homeowners insurance... brilliant... As my sister would tell me" shhh, Jen those are the things we don't say out loud" So there you go- all my humiliation out there on my blog. I am feeling like a iddiot I guess the altitude going to my head!

Good Stuff.......

My Sister just sent this to me, Chew on this one....
Hey Jen, I just read this from the chapter, Prayer Grasps Eternity in Why Revival Tarries by Leonard Ravenhill. It's pretty stinking good and convicting.

"We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players, few payers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers, many fears, few tears, much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors, many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere. "

Give me the Passion! - Jen

Yearning...

I yearn to know God more. To really be a friend of God, to really hang out with him, to know him, sense his presense and be a piece of his Glory here on earth. More than anything lately, I just want to be called his friend, to know how to really press in a spend time with the creator of my life. I know that God created a intrinsicly personal earth so that we may know him more. There has been times over this last year where I have felt left or alone and I know the truth and that those are really lame crappy thoughts that have no room in the beautiful kingdom of God. I know and really believe that God is personally and specifically involved in my life.

I love that we are called friends of God. It makes our relationship with God so personal. He fills our thoughts with thoughts that bear fruitfullness in our lives and in the lives around us. God gives us fellowship with one another so that we may bring life to the world. Fellowship always gives life. Have you every noticed when you are around people who really have genuine fellowship, it brings life and spurs you on? Not just talking about stuff, but really having something genunie in your conversations. I pray that day to day our fellowship with the Father would bear fruit in our lives, that we would be able to encourage those around us and really bring life to the the world around us. I don't want to be stuck on lame, selfish things. I want the Joy of the Lord to change me an bring life to people.

Mama Mandy

My sister has been texting and sending me pictuers at work of Ava. It keeps me going for sure. My whole family is down with my sister. I was able to get away last week for a Thrus-Sun visit and I was really thankful. It was hard to leave as expected, but I am thankful to the Lord for how he is using their lives in huge ways with the people in Texas. I don't think being away from your twin will ever be easy :( She is a beatiful mommy and I am really really stinkin' proud of her. Here is a picture that I just love of her. She looks peaceful, contented and joyful with Ava. What do you think?

Randomness................

I am up late and I just got back having dinner with a bunch of girls at my good friend, Ann's house. I can' really go to sleep, so I thought I would blog. I am not feeling particularly intellectual about blogging, just thoughtful and can't really put words to what I am feeling. I think I am missing my sister and wishing I could be with her. Her baby is due anytime, so pray for her. Really my brain is fried and not really in any shape to make sense of anything so I think it is best to keep things simple. Highlights in my week thus far.

1. Mountain Biking- great single tracks.
2. Connecting with good friends here
3. Life feels simple here
4. I ate the best Halibut of my life Monday night at a work meeting.
5. Sunday Night Church
6. Talking to my sis a lot

Bummer's for the week

Those of you that know my childhood dog, Jack was put to sleep today. It was really really sad! It is crazy how dog's really become such good companions to famlies. Jack will be missed by many people.

Found out I have to have some dental work which means $$$$$ Oh well, it's life and it goes on.....

Ok, my eyes sting and I really need to go to bed. Lots of Love.

Peace

Texas Birthday with my sister

I decided after not spending a birthday with my twin since I was 22, it was time to make it happen. We had a great Birthday weekend with each other. Man, we had so much fun! We laughed a lot and just loved being together! On Saturday, we ventured out to do some last minute shopping before the baby arrives. People thought it was so funny that there was one of us pregnant. We made friends with our sister- Veronica at Motherhood Maternity. We even danced with her in the store! She was funny! She decided that since my sister had a baby in her tummy, I needed a tummy too. She strapped this fake tummy on me- that is what you will see in the pictures. Maybe you have a visual, or maybe you just had to be there. We laughed a lot together. Eli is making the baby's crib and surprised Mandy by making a matching dresser/changing table, which you will see in the above picture. We got to talk, laugh, swim, cook and have great fellowship with one another. It was really fun. Mandy dropped me off for my flight 20 minutes before I departed.... we really stretched our minutes.

Summer Update

Here are a few pictures of when I was in Cali last month.

Thought I would post a few pictues of the past month. Lots of pictures, I will post more later. Last June I was in California for my sisters baby shower, it was great to see family and friends. Carol and I headed down to Durango late May and this past weekend my friends Carol and Ann took me to Steamboat Springs for a early Birthday! We had lots of fun and went on a all day hike saturday and then had a picnic dinner by the river Saturday night.

Here are a few pics of this past weekend.
